The 100-project started on September 29th and is now completed.

It was around July of this year that Tesla CEO Elon Musk, trumped dozens of competing proposals to build the biggest lithium ion battery that will serve as emergency back-up power for South Australia a state racked by outages.

The project involved linking hundreds of smaller battery modules within of 100 days of contract agreement deadline, which might be  tight. The 100 days was launched on September 29th, and now the project is complete.  The only thing left is to test the battery.

"While others are just talking, we are delivering our energy plan, making South Australia more self-sufficient, and providing back up power and more affordable energy for South Australians this summer," said Premier Jay Weatherill in a media statement.

"The world's largest lithium ion battery will be an important part of our energy mix, and it sends the clearest message that South Australia will be a leader renewable energy with battery storage."

The battery,  designed to light up 30.000 homes if there is a blackout, will be built on a wind farm operated by France’s Neon, parts of which are still under construction.

Ian Lowe a professor of science at Australia’s Griffith University  says,” cost effective storage of electrical energy is the only problem holding us back from getting all of our power from wind and solar.”
